Kids Reserve is a non-for-profit Incorporated Society providing care and education for children aged 3 months to 5 years. Children are cared for in an environment that nurtures, protects and encourages learning. The learning environment encompasses the principals and strands of Te Whariki, the New Zealand national curriculum for early childhood education and care.
The centre is licensed for a maximum of 46 children, of which up to 18 can be under 2 years of age.
The centre operates in three separate age-appropriate learning areas. These areas are as follows: Up to 2½ yrs: 6 teachers, approximately 1:3 ratios 2-2½ yrs-3-3½yrs: 3 teachers, approximately 1:4 ratios 3-3½yrs-5 yrs: 2 teachers, approximately 1:7 ratios Kids Reserve is primarily for employees of the Reserve Bank, Department of Labour, Child, Youth and Family and Ministry of Social Development. The centre has public places allocated on a contractual basis if a vacancy arises that cannot be filled by the above departments. Opening hours are 7.45am to 5.40pm Monday through to Friday. The centre is open throughout the year excluding statutory holidays, one teacher-only day per year and for a two week period over Christmas/New Year. Children attend a minimum of 2 full days per week. Our centre cook provides nutritous food throughout the day for all children. The centre employs a combination of both trained and in training teachers, a Centre Cook and a Housekeeper. Relief teachers are employed to cover staff when they are on leave to keep consistency. The centre is managed by a Centre Manager and two Supervisors. A management committee is elected each year at an Annual General Meeting, and they provide support and governance to the centre and its staff.
